Dickies Arena announced that it has added a “sports theater” LED lighting system that will allow the venue to create event-specific lighting environments for a variety of different programs using a single control system that can perform tasks like adjusting lighting angles and changing light colors.
The Fort Worth, Texas-based Dickies Arena, which opened in 2020, said it has partnered with a pair of companies, GigaTera and Planled, to bring those companies’ joint-effort Sports Theater System to the 14,000-seat venue to provide “Broadway-style” lighting capabilities that can be quickly adjusted for any type of event. According to Dickies, the system is already installed and will be used at the now-underway Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.
According to the companies, the Sports Theater System allows for automated control of the lighting system, which at Dickies will use approximately 300 LED lights. With the digital multiplex- (DMX) controlled lights offering the ability to change motion and color capabilities, Dickies Arena can now create event-specific lighting setups from a single control board. According to Planled and GigTera, every light is individually adjustable, allowing the arena to have sports-specific aiming schedules which “can both enhance player performance and optimize broadcast quality.”
This Sports Theater System “eliminates the need for additional equipment or labor to create custom lighting scenes, significantly reducing costs and preparation time,” according to the companies. Planled and GigaTera have previously teamed up on a number of venue lighting deployments, at a wide range of venues from Major League Baseball stadiums to high schools.
Dickies Arena, which opened in 2020 as one of the most well-designed and technologically forward venues with a fully converged network built by Master Technology Integrator AmpThink, is now ready to bring a top-level lighting experience to its many shows and events, according to venue execs.
“We host a wide range of concerts, family shows, and sporting events and we are extremely excited to be the first arena to add Planled’s new lighting technology to give our guests a heightened entertainment experience,” said Matt Homan, general manager of Dickies Arena, in a prepared statement. “We look forward to showing off our new lighting system with the Legendary Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.” This year’s Stock Show and Rodeo takes place from Jan. 17 through Feb. 8.
